One New boat cover for the Finnmaster 5700 WA This does not necessarily mean that the entire canopy needs to be rebuilt. In this project, we used the customer’s old boat canopy as a template and manufactured a brand-new canopy with the same basic shape. Navy blue canopy fabric and brown edging gave the boat a modern, fresh look.
The work was performed by Marstrands Marintextil AB and also included transportation and a test installation at the customer’s home, where the boat was located. We mounted the canopy on the existing aluminum arches and resolved the practical challenges that arose on site.
New boat canopy modeled after the customer's old canopy
The customer still had their previous boat cover. This provided us with a basis for the shape, panel layout, and placement of details. Based on that, we manufactured a new boat cover that followed the existing design, while updating the materials and color scheme.
The photos show the canopy over the windshield and the driver's seat. The front weather-protective section can be described as a sprayhood. Here, we use “boat cover” as a general term for the newly manufactured solution for the Finnmaster 5700 WA.
When the old chapel can be used as a model
If you have an older cover with a shape you like, it can serve as a good starting point for a new one. We’ll first need to assess its condition and fit. An old cover may have shrunk, stretched, or changed shape, which sometimes means the base needs to be adjusted.
Please feel free to send us photos before you drop off or ship your canopy. That way, we can review what can be reused as a template and which details need to be adjusted.
Navy blue chapel fabric with brown trim
The color combination is a key part of the redesign. The dark blue, navy-blue canopy fabric gives it a classic nautical look, while the brown trim highlights the canopy’s contours and creates a warm contrast against the white boat.
We used high-quality awning fabric with water-repellent properties, designed for use in a marine environment. Combined with meticulous stitching and a tailored fit, the choice of material plays a key role in the awning’s functionality.
Large windows and meticulous details
The window panels follow the design of the existing structure. The images show how the windshield, side windows, and fabric meet around the driver's seat. The trim strip visually ties the parts together and gives the edges a uniform appearance.
During the test installation, we checked how the new canopy was positioned in relation to the arches, the windshield, and the mounting points. A canopy needs to function properly on the actual boat, which is why the installation process is an important part of the overall project.
The same basic shape—a new overall look
The goal was to retain the solution the customer already had while significantly upgrading it. Remanufacturing the canopy based on the old one made it possible to replace the fabric, windows, and edging without having to start from scratch with an entirely different design.
The existing aluminum frames were kept
In this project, we reused the customer's existing aluminum frames. The new canopy had not been mounted on the arches when work on site began, so that issue also had to be resolved during the visit.
Screws affected by salt made assembly more difficult
The screws and fasteners were affected by salt and corrosion and were tightly seized. This made it difficult to remove parts and adjust the position of the arches prior to assembly. The work therefore required extra care and practical problem-solving.
We figured out a way to install the canopy so that it could be mounted on the existing arches. For us, service means helping the customer every step of the way, even when older hardware and stuck parts make the job more challenging than expected.
Delivery and trial installation at the customer's home
We went to the boat at the customer’s residence to perform a preliminary installation. The assignment included transportation and on-site labor, involving the installation of the canopy on the arches and the adjustment of their position.
For the customer, this meant receiving assistance right where the boat was located. This type of service is planned based on the boat’s location, accessibility, and the work that needs to be done. When we receive a new request, we assess the circumstances before scheduling a visit.
Keep unnecessary costs down by making well-thought-out choices
We want to help the customer make a financially sound decision. In this case, the old canopy served as a useful template, and the aluminum arches could be reused. This allowed us to focus our efforts on the new canopy and its installation.
For us, keeping costs down means avoiding unnecessary replacements and choosing a solution that meets the need. Materials, stitching, and functionality must still receive the necessary attention. Which parts can be retained must always be assessed on a case-by-case basis for each individual project.
Boat Covers for Gothenburg, Kungälv, and Marstrand
From our workshop in Marstrand, we help boat owners in Gothenburg, Kungälv, and along the west coast with custom-fit boat covers. Whether you have a Finnmaster 5700 WA or another boat model, we can assess the possibility of manufacturing a new cover based on your existing one.
We also accept inquiries from other parts of Sweden. Please contact us first if you’d like to send in an old canopy as a template. We’ll need to review photos, assess its condition, and discuss your requests, as well as agree on pickup, shipping, and any necessary assembly.
Boat cushions for the Finnmaster 5700 WA – a possible next step
This project concerns the chapel and its installation. New boat cushions were not manufactured as part of the work described. If the customer would like to replace the seats at a later date, we can also assist with custom-fit boat cushions or a change of clothes, based on a separate assessment.
Colors and materials can then be chosen to complement the navy blue canopy and the brown trim. Read more about our project with Sprayhood and boat cushions for the Zodiac Medline 500 for an example where both parts were manufactured.
Frequently Asked Questions About the New Chapel at Finnmaster
Can you sew a new canopy based on my old one?
Yes, an existing chapel can be used as a basis when its condition and fit make it suitable. We first assess whether it can be used directly as a template or if adjustments are needed.
Do I need to buy new awning poles?
Not always. In this Finnmaster project, we reused the aluminum spars. For your boat, we need to check the condition, shape, and mountings of the spars before we can recommend a solution.
How much does a new canopy and installation cost?
The price depends on the design, materials, number of parts, and the amount of customization required. Transportation and on-site labor must also be factored in if installation is requested. Send us photos and describe your needs, and we’ll provide a price quote tailored to your specific boat.
Can you help with the installation on the boat?
We offer on-site installation by arrangement. Please let us know where the boat is located and whether it is on land or in the water, so we can assess access, transportation, and the scope of the work.
Would you like to refurbish the canopy on your Finnmaster?
Please send photos of the boat, the old chapel, and the arches to info@marintextil.com. Please let us know the model and year of your boat, your preferred color combination, and whether you'd like help with installation.
We'll get back to you with an assessment and a price quote. Our goal is a well-thought-out solution guided by fit, quality, and the customer's budget.
