A customer in Västerås contacted us regarding their Omega 36, where the existing sprayhood had become worn after many years of use.
Instead of compromising on fit or design, the customer chose to send us their original sprayhood so that we could manufacture a new sprayhood with exactly the same fit and function—but in new material.
This project is a clear example of how we work when the boat does not need to be on site.
- analysis of the customer's original sprayhood (fit, angles, tension)
- precise molding based on the dimensions and design of the original
- planning of zippers and openings according to customer requirements
- Prepared holes and adjustment for extra bow at the rear
- new manufacturing in UV-resistant marine materials
- Final inspection and return shipping to customer in Västerås
The result was a newly manufactured sprayhood for the Omega 36 with exactly the same fit as the original, but with new materials, improved functionality, and a long service life.
Starting point – worn original sprayhood for Omega 36
The existing sprayhood for the Omega 36 had served its purpose after many years of use in the Nordic climate.
The material was worn, the fit had begun to deteriorate, and features such as zippers and fastenings needed updating.
To ensure a precise fit and correct height, angle, and tension, the customer chose to send their original sprayhood to our workshop in Marstrand.
This provided us with a basis
- exact original shape from existing sprayhood
- correct measurements for arcs, height, and angle
- reference for the placement of zippers
- template for openings and holes for extra rear arch
- ability to recreate the same fit – without the boat needing to be in place
This is how we work when a customer sends in their sprayhood
When working with sprayhoods sent in, we can build templates directly from the original.
This ensures that the newly manufactured sprayhood has the same fit as the original, while we upgrade the materials, stitching, and functionality according to the customer's wishes. This method is often used for Omega 36, where a proper fit is crucial for both function and appearance.
- the result becomes more personal
- the customer feels involved
- costs can be more efficient
- we can devote more time to advanced craftsmanship
Step-by-step – newly manufactured sprayhood for Omega 36
Step 1 – Review of the customer's original sprayhood
The customer in Västerås sent us their existing sprayhood.
We analyzed the original in detail to ensure that the fit, height, slope, and bow placement could be recreated exactly.
We specifically checked:
- how the fabric had been stretched over the arches
- placement of zippers
- openings and holes for extra arch at the rear
- how the original sprayhood rested against the cabin roof
Step 2 – Molding directly from the original
The original sprayhood was used as a full-scale template.
All panels, seams, and fastenings were manually templated in our workshop.
This ensures:
- identical fit to frames
- correct shape around windshield and sides
- that the new sprayhood works without adjustment on site
We removed everything down to the customer's wooden seat.
This is the basis for a quality job.
Step 3 – Material selection and customization
In dialogue with the customer, the following was determined:
- New marine chapel fabric adapted for Nordic climates
- new zippers according to customer requirements
- exact placement of holes for extra bow at the rear
All choices were documented before sewing began.
Step 4 – Sewing and assembly
The sprayhood was sewn from scratch using:
- UV-resistant thread
- reinforced seams at stress points
- correct tension across the arches
Every detail followed the templates from the original; no standard measurements were used.
Step 5 – Final inspection and delivery
The finished sprayhood was checked against the original fit before delivery.
After passing inspection, the sprayhood was shipped back to the customer in Västerås, ready for immediate installation.
The result was a newly manufactured sprayhood for the Omega 36 with exactly the same fit as the original – but in new material and with updated features.
The end result – a newly manufactured sprayhood for the Omega 36 with an exact original fit.
The project resulted in a completely new sprayhood for the Omega 36, manufactured from scratch but modeled exactly after the customer's original. sprayhood.
By sending their existing sprayhood to our workshop, we were able to ensure the correct fit, the right angle, and precise attachment to the bow structure.
The finished sprayhood now has:
Exact fit to the original frames (no adjustment required during installation)
Specially placed holes for extra arch at the rear, according to customer requirements
Zippers and openings positioned according to the original template
New clear acrylic windows with good visibility and long service life
Premium marine fabric, UV-resistant and adapted for the Nordic climate
Craftsmanship sewing with a focus on durability and function
The end result was not only a new sprayhood –
It became an extension of the boat's original design, where function, aesthetics, and user-friendliness work together.
For many owners of sailboats such as the Omega 36, the sprayhood is a crucial part of onboard comfort. When the fit is right and the details are in place, everything works perfectly – both in port and at sea.
When is it time to manufacture a new sprayhood?
The short answer is:
when the fit, function, or protection no longer meets the required standards.
A sprayhood is one of the most exposed parts of a sailboat such as the Omega 36. Over time, the fabric, windows, and fastenings are affected by sun, wind, salt, and movement.
It is often time for a newly manufactured sprayhood if:
the sprayhood has lost its original shape
the fabric has become worn, brittle, or leaky
the windows are cloudy, cracked, or discolored
zippers no longer function reliably
the fit against the frames is no longer correct
previous repairs do not provide a lasting result
In these cases, a new sprayhood modeled after the original is often the best and most long-term solution.
Why make a new sprayhood instead of repairing the old one?
For boats such as the Omega 36, it's not just about looks, but also about function, safety, and comfort on board.
With a newly manufactured sprayhood, you get:
Exact original fit to existing frames
Correct slope, height, and tension throughout the entire structure
Option to customize details (zippers, openings, extra arch)
New clear acrylic windows with good visibility
Modern marine fabric with significantly longer service life
When the basic shape is right from the start, the sprayhood works as it should – both in port and at sea.
