Developing tailor-made boat cushions, boat cushions and yacht cushions in the premium segment requires more than an ordinary measuring job. In a larger yacht project, it's about analyzing comfort, fit, material longevity in a marine environment and building a solution that both feels exclusive and works in practice.
After a period of ongoing communication with the client, we therefore traveled to Antibes, France on the 5th of February, to conduct an on-site survey aboard the Majesty 110 with the yacht name “Alina Maria II”. We landed at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and made our way to Antibes to carry out a detailed review of the yacht's existing boat cushions, outdoor cushions and seat cushions, as well as plan the next steps of the project.
This post describes exactly how we work with custom-made boat cushions, yacht upholstery and marine textile solutions when the requirement is premium, longevity and a result that looks “built for the yacht” - not like a standard solution.
Reupholstering or remanufacturing boat cushions on a superyacht - what is required?
When talking about boat cushions for yachts and larger vessels, it is rarely a question of just “new upholstery”. It's often about getting the right support, the right tension in the fabric, the right construction in the seams and choosing materials that can withstand:
- strong UV exposure
- salt and moisture
- temperature differences
- frequent use
- premium visual finish requirements
In practice, this means that you have to assess what to preserved, what to be reinforced and what to be rebuilt in the construction. That's why we often recommend on-site inspection and measurement for this type of assignment.
Project overview: boat cushions and yacht cushions for “Alina Maria II” (Majesty 110)
This project is about custom made boat cushions for the outdoor parts of the yacht, where the right choice of materials and the right manufacturing are crucial for both comfort and durability.
We worked with a clear plan:
- review of existing cushions on board
- analysis of wear, shape and comfort
- measurement and input for production
- material choices for outdoor marine conditions
- planning of logistics and final installation
The journey to Antibes: from communication to on-site work on board
1. Preparation and communication with the client
Prior to the trip, a structured dialog was conducted in which the customer shared the data and needs. This type of project requires a clear common understanding of the goal right from the start: how the cushions should feel, look and function.
When working with yacht cushions, marine cushions, outdoor cushions for boats and larger surfaces, it is always the details that determine the end result. That's why the decision was made to do a walk-through on site.
2. Landing in Nice and on to Antibes
We landed at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and traveled to Antibes where the yacht was moored. Once there, we were able to work directly on the actual surfaces, shapes and conditions on board.
To prevent future problems:
On-site review: analysis of existing boat cushions and comfort on board
Wear, fit and use zones
A key part of the work was to analyze how existing cushions behave in a real environment. On a superyacht, the same cushion solution can be used in several “zones” - sun, shade, sitting, lying, walking areas - and each zone has different requirements.
We went through:
- where the fabric is most stressed and worn
- how the foam keeps its shape and load-bearing capacity
- how seams, edges and fasteners behave over time
- how water and moisture affect the structure
- how comfort is perceived in sitting and lying positions
This is exactly the kind of analysis that makes the difference between “new pads” and boat pads that really last and feel premium.
Measuring and templating: the basis for tailor-made boat cushions
Why measuring on board gives better results
To create tailor-made boat cushions with correct tension, clean lines and a stable fit, general measurements are rarely enough. On site, you can be sure:
- precise contours and radii
- correct heights and angles
- how the pads meet bulkheads, edges and fittings
- how the whole looks from different angles on board
It's the difference between “it fits” and “it looks original”.
Material selection for tailor-made boat cushions on Majesty 110 - analysis of premium marine solutions
When developing customized boat cushions, yacht cushions and marine cushion solutions for larger yachts such as Majesty 110, a careful analysis of the materials' properties in a real marine environment is required. During the on-board briefing, several different material options were discussed based on durability, aesthetics and function, with a particular focus on materials that can withstand UV exposure, salt water, temperature variations and frequent use.
One of the materials that attracted particular interest during the analysis was Silvertex from Spradling, a well-known material in marine upholstery and yacht upholstery where premium finish requirements are combined with high technical performance.
Silvertex (Spradling) in dark beige - marine vinyl for premium outdoor environments
Silvertex is a marine grade vinyl that is often used in yacht cushions, outdoor boat cushions and lounge areas where both design and function need to work together. The material is developed to withstand demanding marine environments and is therefore frequently used in custom boat cushions and marine textile solutions.
During the analysis, Silvertex in dark beige was discussed as a possible option to create a balance between:
- exclusive aesthetics adapted to the yacht environment
- durability for intensive use
- easy cleaning and maintenance
- long lifetime in outdoor environment
The structure of the material means it works well for both seat cushions and lying surfaces where a stable shape and premium feel are important.
Technical characteristics of Silvertex for boat cushions and yacht upholstery
Silvertex is developed specifically for marine environments and offers properties that make it suitable for tailor-made cushion solutions:
- high UV resistance and color stability
- resistance to moisture, mold and salt
- durable surface for marine seat cushions
- water-repellent properties
- easy cleaning in daily use
- flexible structure that allows for a precise fit
These properties make the material relevant for both yacht cushions, marine seat cushions and specially designed outdoor cushions.
Other marine materials analyzed in tailor-made boat cushions
In addition to Silvertex, several material options are usually analyzed depending on the direction and application of the project. When developing yacht cushions and cushions for boats, we also work with:
- marine acrylic fabrics (e.g. Recasens / Recacril Decorline & Waterproof)
- durable vinyl materials for marine environments (Silvertex, Marlin, Linetex, Nautilus - Spradling)
- textile solutions for interior yacht cushions (Scandinavian Alcantara)
- premium solutions for lounge and relaxation areas (Polyacrylic & cotton blends)
By comparing different marine materials, we can ensure that the solution is tailored to the yacht's design, use and long-term sustainability requirements.
Thread, stitching and construction - what determines longevity
In marine cushions, longevity is rarely determined by the fabric alone. At least as important is:
- marine grade wire for high durability
- seam positioning that reduces stress in “drag zones”
- reinforcements where cushions fold, move or are pressed hard
- construction that minimizes water ingress
- Transparent quote before production starts
Zippers and fasteners - function and serviceability
Therefore, zipper and fastening systems adapted for the marine environment are included.
- be dismantled if necessary
- be adjustable during installation
- be serviced in a controlled manner
For yacht projects, it is important that cushions are built to last:
Foam and comfort - ergonomics for sitting and lying surfaces
Boat cushions on larger surfaces require the right quality of foam to keep their shape and provide comfort. We choose foam accordingly:
- area of use (sit/stand/back)
- requirements for dimensional stability
- ventilation and moisture management
- comfort level and density
Work process: how we build tailor-made boat and yacht cushions
Dismantling, rebuilding and ergonomic adjustments
Premium projects often involve combining new cladding with improved construction. We work with:

- reconstruction of surfaces for a more exclusive end result
Cleaning and improvement of existing parts
On yacht projects, it is common for some parts to be improved instead of always being replaced. Therefore, professional cleaning and assessment of what to reuse or upgrade is included.
Final installation on board in Antibes
The aim is to be able to carry out final fit adjustment on board so that the whole fits perfectly in the real environment.
