Tailor-made boat chapel in Gothenburg
When a customer sailed into Marstrand all the way from the Atlantic to visit Marstrands Marintextil AB, we were entrusted with creating a new boat cover for his Sun Odyssey 49 - an elegant sailing boat with powerful character and thoughtful design.
After a long journey across the ocean, the boat needed new protection, and the customer chose us for our combination of Swedish craftsmanship, local presence and precision.
The project became a symbol of West Coast craftsmanship - tailor-made, durable and adapted to every millimeter of the boat's lines.
How we make a boat canopy
Each boat chapel starts with a personal visit - because no two chapels are the same.
At Marstrands Marintextil AB, we always take exact measurements directly on site to ensure perfect fit, tightness and aesthetics right from the start.
For the Sun Odyssey 49 project in Marstrand, we followed our well-proven four-step process for canopy manufacturing.
1. On-site milling
All measurements were taken directly on the boat to follow the shape of the hull and bows with millimeter precision. This is essential for the canopy to withstand the wind and salt of the West Coast without wearing out.
2. cutting and sewing
The chapel was made in our workshop in Marstrand with Storm Plus fabric - the newer, stronger and more exclusive version of Sunbrella canopy fabric.
Storm Plus provides superior protection against UV radiation, rain, mold and salt water, while the fabric has a higher color fastness and longer lifespan.
All seams were double-knitted with UV-resistant thread to ensure maximum sustainability.
3. Assembly and adjustment in port
The canopy was fitted and fine-tuned directly on the boat to achieve an exact fit.
Unlike many standard canopies that are based on ready-made templates, we tailor every detail to the customer's wishes.
The customer could choose the window position, the amount of light, the privacy and the number of zippers - for a personalized and functional solution.
4. Finish and quality control
The boxes were mounted in clear marine PVC with UV filter, all fittings in stainless steel 316 and the chapel was examined in every detail before delivery.
The result was a tailor-made boat cover in Storm Plus fabric which combines elegant design, high durability and optimal weatherproofing.
A canopy made in Marstrand - built for the west coast climate, sailing and lifestyle.
Perfect fit for Sun Odyssey 49 - shape, strength and weather protection
This model requires precision. The Sun Odyssey 49 has a large cockpit and long lines that make the shape of the canopy extra important.
We designed the canopy to withstand both strong winds and UV exposure, with reinforcements at corners and seams.
The panes were positioned to maximize visibility, and all edges were given extra sealing to resist rain and salt.
The finished canopy gives the boat a new, updated look and significant protection from the Nordic climate.
Material choice - Storm Plus, the next generation marine fabric
Storm Plus fabric is developed for extreme marine conditions and provides:
100 % UV resistance
Waterproofing and breathability
Flame retardancy and mold resistance
Color fastness even after several seasons
The material is a premium alternative to Sunbrella and is used in our most exclusive projects.
